Steel Pan Education and Culture

The Department of SteelPan Education and Culture is responsible and charged with producing and providing
educational programs for the steelpan industry. We take a stance to ensure that the future of steelpan practitioners
are educated to build a successful career in the steelpan industry both locally and internationally.

Certificate in Steel Pan Literacy and Performance

Steel Pan Literacy and Performance certificate is aimed at contributing to the promotion of steel pan  education. Through the steel pan literacy and performance program, students will understand performance  skills and gain knowledge in the history of steelpan, develop their ability in the  theory of music and produce a repertoire of songs.

Certificate in Pan Making and Tuning

This certificate provides students with the knowledge of the making and tuning of all the steel pan instruments, constructing and applying  musical voices to the  instrument and the history of making and tuning of the steel pan, it’s tuners, developments, innovations and experiments.

Certificate in Steel Pan Education

The Steelpan Education Diploma gives students the needed tools to thrive in the classroom understanding their role as a steelpan educator. Students are exposed to a series of courses such as the roles  and functions of the steelbands, Teacher Characteristics &  Professionalism, History of Steelpan and Music History.

Diploma in in Steel Pan Performance

Topics taught in this course will introduce students to arranging different types of musical geners for the various tonal ranges of the steelpan instruments. Students will also develop technical and expressive skills as soloists and performers in ensemble settings as well as develop the tools and processes needed for independent learning.
